Designer of the Year Competition

The Designer of the year competition wIll be held During the Convention on September 15, 2007 in the Vicksburg Convention Center.

Contest Rules:

1. Entrant must be associated with a shop that is a member of MFA, in good standing.
2. Any first place winner, of the MFA designer of the year contest, is ineligible to enter for three years.
3. Applications and questions for this year's contest must be sent to:     Elizabeth Williams * C/O Mostly Martha's * 898 E. Centre St. * Ridgeland, MS 39157
4. An entry fee of $35.00 payable to MFA should accompany this application.
5. All entrants must do their own work without assistance in the design room that is provided for the contestants.
6. Orientation begins on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 8:30 A.M.  Each entrant will be allowed 3 hours to complete all categories according to the instructions given at the orientation.  Each entrant must be present for orientation.
7. Each entrant must submit a design in each of the categories listed below:
   1. centerpeice
   2. bridal bouquet
   3. surprise package
   4. funeral
   5. corsage
8. All entrants must provide their own tools,wire, wood picks, tape, glue, glue gun or skillet, greening pins, extention cords and any/all basic design tools.
9. Entrants may use only the containers, flowers and materials provided by MFA officials.
10. All designs will become the property of MFA at the conclusion of the contest.
11. Scoring of each individual design will be based on a maximum of ten (10) points awarded in each of these categories:
    1. category interpretations
    2. creativity
    3. scale or proportion
    4. unity and harmony (color)
    5. physical and visual balance
    6. focal emphasis
    7. line (movement and rythm)
    8. depth and texture
    9. technical execution or mechanics
    10. oevrall composition
12. Violation of any contest rules will invalidate the entry.
13. The winner of the contest could represent MFA in regional competitions.
14. The MFA Designer of the Year will receive a cash award of $200.00  as well as $550.00 to help pay cost of representing MFA in a regional competition, 2nd place will recieve a cash award of $150.00 and 3rd place will recieve a cash award of $100.00.  
15. The winner of the competition will be the entrant with the highest total point score.
16. The 2007 MFA Designer of the Year will co-chair the 2008 MFA Designer of the year Competition.
17. The MFA Designer of the Year will be announced at the Saturday night President's Banquet and all entrants must be present to win.
18. The competition is limited to 10 entrants.
